Network Management

Friday’s Top Gadget Picks

Have you noticed the time seems to be moving slower than usual today? I swear I just looked at the clock only to find it was five minutes before the last time I checked. How does that even happen?? Anyway, if you’re having a similarly tough time making it to 5 p.m. today, take a load off and check out these gadgets for any network manager.

Scosche iPod / iPhone Recoil Charger

scosche_recoil1Neat Freaks and Geeks alike rejoice. Scosche has released the solution to the endless coils of wire clutter our dependence on iPods, Cellphones GPS systems, etc has created: The Scosche iPod / iPhone Recoil charger.

As the name suggests this smart little gadget boasts a magnetic retractable wire with which you can recharge your iPod / iPhone. However, that’s as cool as this car tool gets. And if you have yet to jump on the iPod / iPhone bandwagon then reading this post was an utter waste of your time because it is only compatible with those two items. It sells for $30 (but if you look hard enough, you’ll be able to find cheaper, retractable chargers, I swear.)

The StealthSwitch

stealthswitch_11If you’re a Microsoft user with OS X Leopard envy, or if you already enjoy Apple’s multiple desktop feature but wish it had more security capabilities, then StealthSwitch is the device for you.

The pedal-like gadget allows users to switch between windows instantly with the simple downward movement of the foot, hiding your World of Warcraft game / Facebook page from your boss / wife whatever and replacing it with another window of your choice. Like . . . what you said you were working on, or something. Anyway, the device can also be used for more practical applications like protecting sensitive info, muting sound, and hiding all desktop icons.

It works with any application under the sun and allows you to password protect the restore program function – meaning even if you boss / wife wises up to the gadget and clicks on the pedal they still won’t be able to see what you were really spending your time doing.

All this – and an allegedly easy install – can be yours for just $39.95, available here.

Riiflex Dumbbell Remote / Nunchuck Holder

riiflex-og1Nintendo has announced the newest accessory for the Wii Empire – the Riiflex Dumbbell. Now these contraptions, meant to hold the Wii remote or nunchuck, are not for those made weary by the ridiculous instances of Wii remote injuries of late.

The Riiflex dumbbells are available in two different weights, two pounds and four pounds and are perfect for those Wii Fit fanatics itching to get more out of their workout. They’ll be available this summer starting at $39.95; just be sure to keep a tight grip on these bad boys folks. If the regular remote can inflict the injuries pictured below, I’m not sure I want to know what pain these will be capable of.

The Firestorm Stormproof Lighter

firestorm_l1Do you find yourself desperately attempting to light a cigarette in 80 mph winds frequently? Have you ever been stuck in a torrential rainstorm only to find later that your lucky lighter, the one you always carry in your pants pocket, has been rendered inoperable? Well, if either of these apply to you, or if you’re just a sucker for rugged looking versions of ordinary gadgets (like myself) then you should, without a doubt, check out Bruton’s Firestorm Stormproof Lighter. Weighing just 1.6 ounces this tough little lighter goes for $60 and is promised to be good for at least 30,000 ignitions. And yes, it really can withstand 80 mph winds and torrential downpours of any kind.
