Geek Pride Day ordinated in 1998, then known as the Geek Pride Festival, which took place in a bar in Albany, NY.  Many people wonder why May 25^th – there are several critical events the happened on this day.

• May 25, 1977: release of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope
• May 25, 2001: a tribute to Douglas Adams, author of “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”, also known as Towel Day
• Lovers of Terry Pratchet’s Discworld celebrate this day as ‘Glorious 25 May’
