Lego Dream Home

We have heard of houses being made from ice or tires, but how about your favorite childhood toy?  In 2009, Top Gear’s James May created a life size Lego house.  One thousand volunteers and 3.3 million Lego bricks later, a two story house was built, furniture and plumbing included.

After many calculations and testing, it was determined that 359 Lego bricks are necessary to make a standard size brick.  Instead of doing the math yourself, Movoto Estate Agents created a calculator for us to imagine how many Lego bricks it would take to build a home out of Legos.

However, there is a catch.  The calculator does not take into account interior walls or furniture.  Never the less, I do not see anyone building a life-size Lego house in the near future.  A two-story, 2,000 square foot home would require 10,177,200 Legos for the exterior, and would cost $1,017,720.

Worth it?  Your actual house may cost more or less to build with Legos.   It also all depends on the person, but why not make your dream home Star Wars or Harry Potter Lego themed?  Go big or go home right?
