Introducing the New WhatsUp Gold VoIP Monitor
WhatsUp Gold VoIP Monitor is the first in a series of plug-ins to the extensible WhatsUp Gold product-family architecture that lets you monitor and report on your network’s capacity to support and maintain acceptable call quality for Voice over IP (VoIP). The WhatsUp Gold VoIP Monitor accesses information generated by Cisco IP SLA (service level agreement) enabled devices to monitor jitter, packet loss, latency and other calculated VoIP performance values. As a plug-in, the VoIP Monitor leverages the core services of WhatsUp Gold (v12 and above), seamlessly integrating with its versatile network management capabilities.
New features of WhatsUp VoIP Monitor include:
- VoIP Performance Monitors for Network Measurement
Eight new performance monitors, including six that measure jitter, latency, and packet loss from both source to destination and from destination to source, and two that provide values for ICPIF (calculated planning impairment factor) and MOS (mean opinion score). The performance monitors leverage IP SLA synthetic calls sent between VoIP devices, and do not impose additional load on the network.
- Active Monitor for Mean Opinion Score (MOS)
A configurable active monitor for MOS that can trigger an alert if network degradation causes the MOS value to go below a user configured threshold.
- WhatsUp VoIP Monitor Configuration Wizard
A configuration utility that scans the WhatsUp Gold database for IP SLA enabled devices and lets the user select an IP SLA source device for gathering VoIP RTT (round-trip time) data. The wizard then steps through the set up for VoIP performance monitors, workspace views, and active monitors for the selected IP SLA devices.
- VoIP Monitor Workspace View
A unified view of VoIP performance metrics that is fully integrated with the management and reporting infrastructure of WhatsUp Gold. VoIP data is clearly presented in a single workspace view, and the user can drill down into the underlying WhatsUp Gold functionality to troubleshoot network issues that could affect VoIP performance.

Read why with over 70,000 networks around the world being reliably monitored 7 x 24 from anywhere, at any time, WhatsUp Gold is the most trusted network management solution available. Few know that better than Dana Beausoleil, Contractor for the U.S. Army Defense Information Systems Agency, who became intimately familiar with WhatsUp Gold while in Iraq setting up network servers, switches, routers, printers, and other network devices and applications to run the country. “The ceaseless damage control provided by WhatsUp Gold never failed in monitoring the only working civilian network of an entire nation,” says Beausoleil. “We couldn’t have done our job in Iraq without WhatsUp Gold doing its job.”

Did you know that with WhatsUp Gold v12, you have the ability to run Task Manager via the web interface against any of your Windows machines? To do so, just follow these simple steps:
Step 1. Log into the web interface of your WhatsUp Gold v12 installation.
Step 2. From the Tools menu under the GO button, select Web Task Manager.
Step 3. Using the browse button under the Address or Hostname field, select a device from your list of devices or enter in the address of the device whose information you want to view. Then select the appropriate credentials and click OK.
That’s all there is to it. You can now view the performance metrics and processes of that target machine without having to create a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session or similar type of connection to the WhatsUp Gold machine.
