DID YOU KNOW?

… There are important changes in product licensing that will go into effect with the release of v12.3.
These changes will ensure compliance with your software license device level count. Customers who find they have more devices in the WhatsUp Gold monitoring database than their license allows will have the option to upgrade to the necessary device level or reduce the number of devices to be monitored to the level they purchased.

…You can easily find out how many devices you are currently monitoring with WhatsUp Gold.
To determine the number of devices currently configured for WhatsUp Gold monitoring and reporting follow the instructions below:

Run the Home Workspace Report in WhatsUp Gold.
Note: The Home Workspace Report requires the WhatsUp Web Server to be running.

To launch the WhatsUp Web Server:
Select the “Configure” Menu
Click “Program Options”
Select “Web Server”
Select the box to “Enable the Web Server“
Set the “Automatically logon…” option with the username & password (admin/admin, assuming defaults)

To Run the Home Workspace Report:
Launch Web Server by selecting “Reports” then “All”
If login page displays, enter a valid username and password (admin/admin, assuming defaults)
Select “Home Workspace” Tab
Look for either of the following reports to get an accurate count of Devices (they are both located in the left hand column):

“Summary Counts” Report – See “Count” entry for Total Number of “Monitored Devices”

Example Report:

“Devices by Type Report” – See “Total” as the bottom of the report.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Triggered Actions for Device State Changes

Do you need to trigger an Action at a specific time after a state change? Here are three simple steps you can take to customize or create new Device States for the up or down time you need:

  1. Click Configure > Program Options and select the Device States.
  2. Click New to create a new state, or select an existing state and click Edit to modify it.
  3. You can use the Copy button so you don’t have to adjust everything. Select one that is close to what you want, click Copy and adjust the name and reset the time. Keep the red and green colors, and adjust the number of Points and the inner and outer radius to make multipoint stars for down states and smoother circles for longer up states.
