When Sunny Sandhu, IT Infrastructure & Support Manager, joined Hamleys in 2008,
he discovered that Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold had been previously purchased but
wasn’t being used. As an experienced IT manager, Sunny knew that it was essential
to have a robust network management solution in place. “An IT team can’t afford
to be reactive,” comments Sunny. “We must have a proactive monitoring tool in
order to be responsive, know what is going on all the time and where the point of
failure is - whether it’s an outage or whether a server, PBX switch, or a call switch
University of Law
During the last decade the University has grown and, as a result of this growth,
Stefan Veldsman, Senior IT Operations Specialist, has seen the number of IT assets
and complexity of the IT infrastructure grow accordingly. Over this period, IT had
the ever-challenging responsibility to deliver world class service to their growing
customer base. “To proactively support customers, we knew we needed a better
way to monitor and manage our network,” comments Stefan. “At the time, IT was
using a Basic Utility which reported on service and server availability, but that
didn’t help us pinpoint the root cause of a problem.”
In 2005, Sibeg purchased WhatsUp Gold to improve business continuity, prevent
outages, reduce response time, and guarantee the best service to their end users. Sibeg has two hundred employees working in the Catania head office and eighty field salespeople who remotely access the network to place orders online.
Optim Healthcare has been a WhatsUp Gold customers since 2008 and Matt Cline, Senior Systems Administrator at Optim Healthcare, is an active member of Ipswitch’s WUGspace IT Community. Here he found out about WhatsUp Gold’s newest product – WhatsUp Application Performance Monitor. Matt joined the beta group and began using WhatsUp Application Performance Monitor in his environment. Without any training, Matt was able to set-up and start proactively fixing network and application performance problems right away.
David Strickland, CTO, joined MyDealerLot in 2010. "Phone calls from dealers experiencing problems were common. When we got a complaint, that's when we started to troubleshoot." Strickland's search for a network monitoring
solution began after his team custom built tools to poll the system. "We found we still needed something with more granularity. There had to be a better way." That's when WhatsUp Gold was able to help.
WhatsUp Gold Spotlight on James Mercer - Director of IT, Flexi-Van Leasing, Inc.
The shift from technology-driven to business-driven IT positively influences the customers who ultimately determine profitability. “The customer base sees a shift and is reassured that you are aware of problems, you are aware of status, and you are actively working to correct problems – this matters for both internal and external customers.” With WhatsUp Gold as his network monitoring ally, Mercer can carry out his mission of revitalizing IT departments and transforming IT into a strategic business partner faster and with less cost. “It’s hard for WhatsUp Gold to disappoint. It really does everything.”
Flexi-Van Leasing, Inc.
When Jim Mercer arrived as IT Director of Flexi-Van in 2010, he had already used WhatsUp Gold to clean up the network in three other companies. “I knew that WhatsUp Gold would essentially do everything I wanted right out of the box – and with a little extra work, I could get it to measure and monitor nearly anything else.”
At the time, Flexi-Van had no tools to look at the health of the network, alert IT staff of problems, or study historical utilization and reliability. When IT had a problem, they knew it because customers were calling them. It was a challenge Mercer had met before, and he quickly put WhatsUp Gold to work.
