Complying with Regulations and Improving Your Security Posture with WhatsUp Gold 2021.1

Access to Windows logs and syslogs is a vital part of network troubleshooting. When you have to know exactly what happened and when no source is more accurate than the logs produced by the device in question. But what happens when that device is producing hundreds of log entries a day? And when that’s only one of the dozens of devices doing the same? And what do you do when you are required by regulation or internal policy to hold onto those logs for years? Storage space doesn’t grow on trees. And even if it did, accessing a year's worth of log files can be a nightmare if you’re ever audited.

Fortunately, with WhatsUp Gold 2021.1 Progress has added Log Management Archiving. This simple and intuitive capability lets you easily comply with regulatory requirements and preserve historical data without impacting performance. You can select and filter which logs get archived and when so you’re not just dumping all of your output into the archive. You can select any storage location you want – in the cloud or on-premise – and implement compression to save space by up to 90%. And you can also customize how long you want to hold on to those archived logs in order to meet any requirement, no matter how stringent. All within the familiar WhatsUp Gold interface.

Searching archived logs is a snap. You can not only easily find log archives, but restore them with a couple of mouse clicks. Purging archived logs when you no longer need them is just as easy. Check out this brief demonstration to see for yourself:

But helping you comply with log archiving regulations isn’t the only way WhatsUp Gold 2021.1 is making your life easier.
