Panama is known for its sloths, but we can all agree no one likes slothy Internet and shoddy cable service.
When the bandwidth pipeline is overloaded then it usually means an Internet Service Provider needs to invest in its infrastructure. However, when slow Internet is hardware related on the client-side, how will an ISP know and respond?
Cable & Wireless Panama is a partially government owned cable and wireless service provider in Panama. The company is present in every region of the country, offering public telephone services as well as fixed and mobile phone service to families, individuals and corporations. It offers broadband internet, pay television, and data hosting and transfer. It is also an innovator, providing modern telecommunications applications to improve public services in the area of healthcare, medical emergencies, education, citizen security, and public and private administration.
When connectivity issues took place, Cable & Wireless Panama was in the unfortunate predicament of solving issues after they had already effected their customers.
"We were not getting reports on connectivity issues until some kind of problem took place. We wanted a preventative tool with monitoring capabilities that would allow us to observe the 'health' of our equipment," stated Mr. Víctor Ramos, Systems Administrator at the Service Operations Center.
Cable & Wireless Panama needed to find a proactive monitoring solution that could monitor thousands of CPEs and quickly.

"The tool is user-friendly, easy to use, and intuitive, and features simple and customized setup. This made the process much easier," Ramos pointed out.
The end result? Cable & Wireless Panama's is now dealing with more satisfied customers since they can fix issues before their customers observe any problems. These results have now spread to other areas of the business. The Router Support team now has the ability to centralize the management of the clients' configurations and CPE changes.
"Because of the good results achieved, we are about to implement remote servers with clients that have entrusted us with the monitoring of the equipment on their local networks. We are expanding our reach," concluded Víctor Ramos.
